1. Dripping milk from a spoon or palada doesn’t aim into the baby’s mouth. There is spillage, soaking of clothes and wastage of milk. The tube can be cleaned with water drawn into the same disposable syringe used for the technique, at no extra cost.

2. The technique of pushing the milk into the tube is taught to the mother. The milk is not dropped from great heights. After all the length of the infant feeding tube is only 52 cm. This procedure is used in an NICU setting where the mother is already used to a whole lot of gadgets. We go through the exercise of building confidence and giving support to the mother before the procedure.

3. The same syringe can be used 2 to 3 times after washing with water before each use.

4. Concealing the face of the mother was not overlooked. It was deliberate in order to show the mother’s reaction. The author has taken prior permission for the mother to be photographed for publication in a scientific journal.
