Academy Matters

Indian Pediatrics 2000;37: 259

The President of Indian Academy of pediatrics has appointed three national task forces for furthering the mission of the academy. These are on (i) Adolescents; (ii) Children at Risk; and (iii) Reduction of Infant Mortality. Each task force will define specific issues to be addressed, formulate specific objectives and ensure that action is taken to achieve results.

The National Task Force on adolescents and national task force on children at risk will be assisted by task forces at state level and city/district levels. IAP will work along with Government, UNICEF, various NGOs and service organizations like Rotary, Lions, Jaycees etc. at national, state, city/district levels. Letters will be sent to all state and city/district branches with guidelines to form task forces, plan of action, funding of resources etc.

Since the year 2000 has been declared as the IAP year for adolescent and children at risk (underprivileged), the plan will be launched this year. But work will continue over next 4 years as this is a mammoth task.
