Pediatric Clinical Methods

Sagar Publication; New Delhi
Fourth Edition.

The clinical examination of infants and children is not
only difficult and also different from adults and so we need a different
approach and perspective while dealing with children. The highlights of
the book are the inclusion of latest WHO growth charts and chapters on
anthropometry, developmental assessment, approach to a dysmorphic child
and examination of the newborn, in addition to traditional chapters
dealing with various organ systems. A chapter on Hippocratic oath and
medical ethics is a welcome addition. The book is full of illustrations,
tables, and key points which will greatly facilitate the learning process.
Appendices contain a wealth of information on normative data in children.
The book is printed on a good quality paper using a large print which
enhances the visual appeal of the book and makes reading an enjoyable
experience. Important points and messages are highlighted in shades of
grey which make revision easy. The book is written by a well known name in
Indian Pediatrics and Neonatology who has crystallized his vast clinical
experience in this book. Overall it is a very well written book on
clinical methods in children and will be extremely useful not only to
undergraduate and postgraduate medical students but also to practitioners
and faculty members.

Essential Pediatric Pulmonology, Second Edition
SK Kabra and Rakesh Lodha
Noble Vision Medical Book Publishers;
New Delhi.
Pages: 337, Price: 695/-. |
The second edition includes several new chapters
including those on anatomy and physiology of respiratory system, viral
infections, pulmonary infections in immunocompromised hosts, eosinophilic
lung diseases and pulmonary manifestations of rheumatological disorders.
Chapters on bronchiolitis, asthma, tuberculosis, and cystic fibrosis, are
well searched and are a must read for the postgraduates. However, there
are other chapters that fall short of expectation and the most important
of these is pneumonia. Treatment of pneumonia should have been in
consonance with the IAP guidelines. Even noisy breathing and stridor needs
more attention because of its importance. Good X-ray plates could
have added to the value of the book. Index surely needs strengthening in
the next edition. Many important chapters being written well and this
edition being surely better than previous is important and welcome Indian
attempt in the field of pulmonology. Even if not a complete book on
pediatric pulmonology, it is good to acquire a copy.
