Doctor’ Lounge - www.thedoctorslounge. net/ This is a medical portal which provides features like news, drug reference, a listing of mnemonics, revision notes on various topics, multimedia tutorials, chemotherapy regimens and links to medical software. The revision notes include disease summaries for exams, eponyms, differential diagnosis, dermatome charts and more such information which will be of use to students. This site requires a free registration.

Blackwell-Science - www.blackwell-science.com/ This single webiste gives access to table of contents, abstracts of current and past issues of a large collection of ten pediatric journals. Access to the following journals in pediatrics and related subspecialities from Blackwell science publishers is now possible from their website - Ambulatory Child Health, Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, British Journal of Learning Disabilities, Birth: Issues in Perinatal Care, Child: Care, Health and Development, Hemophilia, Hong Kong Journal of Pediatrics, Journal of Pediatrics and Child Health, Pediatric Allergy and Immuno-logy, Pediatric Anaesthesia, Pediatric Derma-tology, Pediatrics International, Tropical Medicine and International Health. E-mail delivery of table of contents and search facility has also been provided. Registration is required, which is free. Many more journals in medicine and allied subjects are also listed in this site. Access to full text, however requires subscription.

Epi info (Statistical Package) - www.cdc.gov/epiinfo/index.htm/ Statistical calculations and analysis have now been made easy by the use of this statistical package developed by the Center for Diseases Control, Atlanta. The latest version, Epiinfo 2000, is available free and can be downloaded. It is around 5MB size and should take around one hour, depending on connection speed. The user’s guide and help files are also available for free download. Instructions for installing and use of the software are given in the user’s guide. The website also provides a webinstall feature - that makes it possible to resume broken downloads. This is a necessity considering the fact that uniterrupted internet connection is still not possible in small towns.

Scirus: The Science Specific Search Engine - www.scirus.com With the websites increas-ing in number exponentially, searching needs to be specific. This search engine, developed by the Elsevier Science publishing group, searches the web specifically for science content. In addition to medline, it searches other databases and sources that are both free and subscription based. Another feature of this search engine is the ability to recognize and retrieve documents which are not in the conventional html format - like the pdf format. Scirus is user friendly and can be customised according to user’s needs. Elsevier Science claims that the search performed is more comprehensive and specific as compared to other general search engines.
