National Family Health Survey
- www.nfhsindia.org. This survey gives the latest statistics on maternal and child health including fertility, mortality, family planning, child nutrition, perinatal statistics, immunization and child mortality. It contains a wealth of information on the current child and maternal health scenario. The findings of the latest survey conducted in 1998-99 the International Institute of Population Sciences were recently released. The full text of this can be downloaded free as a pdf file. This requires the acrobat reader for viewing which can also be downloaded free from the website www.adobe.com.

National Polio Surveillance Project (NPSP) - www.npspindia.org. The NPSP is a collaborative project of the Government of India and the World Health Organization and is responsible for building and maintaining surveillance of AFP in India till certification of polio eradication is achieved in the South East Asia Region of the World Health Organization. The website contains maps on distribution of poliomyelitis in our country, AFP data, laboratory network, strategies for surveillance and eradication, current figures on poliomyelitis and documents on surveillance. The latest on the status of poliomyelitis in our country is available from this site.

Tuberculosis Research Center - www.trc-chennai.org. This premier institute, a part of Indian Council of Medical Research, has a comprehensive website that gives details about their activities, research work, papers published and other features. A full section providing information on DOTS is also available.

Pediatric-Oncall - www.pediatriconcall.com. This is an India based website that provides information for pediatricians and their patients. It contains information on various diseases, drug information including price, journal guide, case reports, sections on pediatric radiology, medical equipment, nutrition, and information about conferences, special schools, etc. Prominent pediatricians are on its panel. Browsing requires registration, which is free. The patients’ section contains dos and don’ts and information on various diseases.

Lexi-Comp’s Diagnostic Procedures Handbook - www.healthgate.com/dph/html/ This is an online handbook containing detailed descriptions of various diagnostic procedures. Descriptions of nearly 300 diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including indications, contraindications, patient preparation, aftercare, findings, and equipment required are given in the website. The list has been arranged alphabetically for easy searching. This site has been hosted by Lexi-Comp Inc. and Health Gate, a prominent healthcare website.

Digital Atlas of Ophthalmology - www.nyee.edu/page_deliv.cgi This website is a database of ophthalmologic images including those on fundoscopy from the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. The images are accompanied with descriptive case histories. The images are categorized anatomically with thumbnail images which enlarge on clicking. A search facility has also been incorporated.
