Attention IAP Branches, Sub-Speciality Chapters and Heads of Departments of Pediatrics


The President and the Secretary General of IAP met the Presidents and Secretaries of IAP State
Branches, Charipersons and Secretaries of IAP Subspeciality Chapters and Heads of Departments of Pediatrics during the 37th National Conference at Hyderabad. Given below are the highlights of the meetings:

 Meeting with the Office Bearers of IAP State Branches

• Submissin of annual report and audited accounts are mandatory.

• The Branch should ensure that all the members attached to it are also the members of the Central IAP by 2001. Only the Central IAP Members attached to the Branch are eligible to hold the post of the office bearer or the executive committee at Branch level. The branches should not enroll any person without Central IAP membership.

• The Branch is required to adopt Central IAP election pattern so that the new office bearers and the members of the executive committee take over the charge of office on 1st January every year.

• The Central IAP will give prizes to the inividual, the State Branch and the Head of Department of Pediatrics enrolling maximum number of members.

• The State Branches should encourage local branches to actively participate in all IAP activities and award prizes for best local Branch, best IAP Child Health Care week Celebration, best IAP World Breastfeeding Week Celebration, etc.

• The Central IAP is considering adoption of three tier system of enrolment of members, i.e., for the Central, State and local level in which case the Central IAP will give fixed percentage of the life membership so collected to the State and local Branch.

• The Central IAP is also considering whether to give permission to Branches for acquiring property in the name of a separate Registered Trust of the Branch.

• The State Branches should exchange copies of the program and the bulletins amongst the Branches for interstate communication, co-operation and co-ordination.

• The State Branches should have better interaction between subspeciality chapters and form state level bodies of the various subspeciality chapters and hold state level scientific meetings.

 Meeting with Office Bearers of IAP Sub-speciality Chapters

• Submission of annual report and audited accounts are mandatory.

• The election of office bearers and the members of the executive committee should be held regularly on the pattern of Central IAP Election Procedure so as to enable the new office bearers to take charge on 1st January in the following year.

• The Chapters should involve Heads of Departments of Pediatrics and local Branches in their programs and establish good interaction between them. The Chapters should seek the co-operation of the IAP State Branches for appointing State level co-ordinators, which will help them to grow.

• The Chapters should bring out guidelines on the management of common pediatric problems pertaining to their subspeciality as soon as possible and submit a copy to the Central IAP not later than June 2000.

• The Central IAP is creating a data bank of good speakers in various sub-specialities. The Chapters are requested to provide details to the Central IAP.

• The Chapters should send copies of their newsletters/bulletins to the Heads of Departments of Pediatrics and the IAP Branches and the Members of the Central Executive Board.

• The Chapters may suggest to the Central IAP regarding affiliation to international societies of their sub-specialities. On receiving required details from the Chapters, the Central IAP shall process necessary papers for affiliation. This will encourage more international conferences in the country.

• There should be co-ordination between the Chapters and the Heads of Depart-ments of Pediatrics in formulating a policy on Undergraduate and Postgraduate curri-culum, which could be passed on to the IAP Education Center.

 Meeting with the Heads of Departments

• The Heads of Departments should make further contribution in the academic front by having a say in shaping the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Curriculum through "IAP Education Center".

• The Heads of Departments should help to create/activate "IAP Research Cell" and collect epidemiological data, which could be passed on to the Central IAP.

• Since the year 2000 has been declared as "IAP’s Year of Adolescent and Child at Risk", the Heads of Departments are requested to involve themselves in a bigger way to make this program a success. The "Child at Risk" program involves orphans, street children, slum children, mentally and physically retarded, etc.

• The Heads of Departments should fix a meeting with the Private Practitioners at least once in a month in co-ordination with local branhces.

• The "IAP Heads of Departments Pediatrics Cell" was formed to bring together all the Heads of the Department of Pediatrics under one IAP umbrella. Dr. Madhuri Kulkarni was chosen as the Chairperson and Dr. A.D. Tewari as the Secretary of this cell.
